Trying out Musescore for the first time, getting to know the flow of the software and checking out the sounds. I'm on Sibelius with Noteperformer, but want to go to Dorico. I made an in between stop to Musescore just because all my composition students use it and I wanted to get better at it to help them. The best way to do that is to write some music 😁 I choose to write a symphonic suite because I really like doing that. This one is dedicated to John Williams and Alan Silvestri. If you listen, you'll know why. 🤪 My conclusion for Musescore: in general it's really ok and you can do a lot with it, but I didn't find the natural workingflow like I have with Sibelius, even though I learned to use a lot of shortcuts. It's the small things that made it harder to keep working quickly. The soundbank is very good, but is heavy for the computer. When I was at about five minutes of music writing the software really started dragging because of the soundbank. It even crashed a few times. That interupted the natural flow of working with it even more. It doesn't play all the articulations that well and I also felt that the balance of the dynamics where a bit off. Noteperformer is a winner in this case. But in the end I enjoyed working on the piece with Musescore. Next stop: Dorico!

📣 Composers geek-alert: This morning I checked out the Tintinnabuli-style of writing, known from Arvo Pärt, an Estonian avant-garde composer. It's a very fun and effective way of writing and when I listen to my whole piece, it brings so much emotion... I tried to blend it with film noir images, just to see what it does. If you want to feel the whole cycle, please listen the whole thing through with headphones. 🎧 Composers geek-alert 2: I wanted to see how the choral tintinnabuli would work in a symphonic arrangement. I put everything in the strings and worked my way up the orchestra to create a dynamic swell. I started octavating in flutes and french horns to add even more dynamics/drama 🥹. Afterwards I put some percussion and harp on top to finish it. 🍒 If you want to feel the whole cycle, please listen the whole thing through with headphones. Maandagavond ging het musicalspektakel van ZOO of Life in première, en dat was een schot in de roos. Hiermee vieren we deze paasvakantie onze 175ste verjaardag in de nieuwe Koningin Elisabethzaal. Een topcast op het podium, wervelende zang en dans in een spectaculair decor, een liveorkest en nog veel meer. Dit wil je niet missen! De hoofdrollen worden gespeeld door Jelle Cleymans, bekend van onder andere de tv-programma´s Thuis en Spring en de musicals Robin Hood en ´14-´18. Jelle doet dit samen met Tinne Oltmans, bekend van Ghost Rockers. Naast deze twee sterren staan ook op het podium: Janine Bischops, Peter Thyssen, Barbara Dex, Warre Borgmans, Ivan Pecnik, Nele Goossens, Sandrine, Shana Pieters, Lotte Stevens, Leendert De Vis, Hannes Vandersteene en Brent Pannier. Deze indrukwekkende cast wordt verder versterkt door honderden vrijwilligers met een groot hart voor de ZOO. Zij zullen dit hele spektakel zowel op als naast het podium ondersteunen, vaart geven en tot een groot succes maken.
